"There is a strong tendency among God's people to take something that God has given and try to make it into a god. They seem to be looking for a 'spiritual vending machine.' The Israelites worshipped the bronze snake that Moses had made (II Kings 18:4). They tried to take the Ark of the Covenant into battle, thinking that would bring them victory (I Samuel 4:3)… I am wary of any teaching that seems to say: 'Follow these steps, and the results will be automatic.'"
